Course Evaluation
An instructor should administer his or her own home university evaluation form to every student in the class--regardless of the student's home institution. The institutions have agreed to report any problems in course quality to each degree program department partnering the course.
Course Partnering
In accordance with the Policy and Procedures for Creation and Delivery of a Baccalaureate or Master's Degree Program at UH System at Sugar Land, the collaborating institutions will develop an agreement that partners the courses that are transferable and that will be scheduled for delivery at the System Center. Once the lead institution and the support institution determine a course from the support institution is equivalent, that course can be taken by students at the System Center to satisfy the requirements of the lead institution's degree program. Generally, the signed agreement will be facilitated by the Distance Education Directors and negotiated by the deans, department or division chairs to be in effect for a period of three years.
Students taking courses at the UH System at Sugar Land will receive resident credit from both the lead institution and the supporting institutions. It should be understood that in the event a student decided to transfer to one of the UH System universities supporting the degree program, it is the prerogative of the program in the supporting university to determine the acceptability of the courses taken from the other UH System institution by the student. For example, the lead institution for the MBA is UH-Victoria. If a student who was enrolled in that program at the UH System at Sugar Land chooses to seek transfer to one of the supporting institutions (UH or UH-Clear Lake), that university would then determine which credits taken to that point would be transferable to their program. The Sugar Land Policy and Planning Committee, made up of representatives from the Faculty Senate and the Provosts, developed this policy.
Course Rosters and Grade Sheets
One unique System Center aspect is that students from all UHS universities can take partnered courses. Course instructors may have students from two or more institutions taking their classes under the course number, title, and rubric of the students’ home institutions. Instructors should expect students to refer to courses by their home institutions’ reference numbers and titles. Faculty members will receive course rosters and grade sheets for each of the partnering sections from the partnering institutions.
Disability Accommodations
The Americans with Disabilities Act policies that apply on campus will also apply at the UH System at Sugar Land. Questions regarding services should be directed to the UHSSL Student Services Coordinator. Students must provide proper lead-time when requesting ADA accommodations. All incidents, including ADA incidents, should be reported to the UHSSL Director, who will process the action according to the proper policies and procedures. In general, only students who have presented proper paperwork and followed proper procedures through their home university are entitled to special accommodations.
Final Exams
The start and finish dates of classes and final exams will be according to the schedule of the institution that is teaching the course, regardless of whether it is the lead institution or the support institution. Since there may be students from several UH System institutions in the same class, final exams at the System Center are generally administered on the final class day.
Grading Policy
Grades will be issued to students in accordance with the policies of the institution in which they are enrolled. In the case of faculty teaching a course which supports the degree program of another campus, he or she will have to issue grades to students enrolled in that program in accordance with their university's policies.
